Planting seedlings

Room 6 were vey lucky to receive some little seedlings from Sue. We went outside to enjoy the sunshine and used the time to plant some of our seedlings. We planted watermelon, tomatoes, cucumbers and many more. We are looking forward to seeing them sprout so we can plant them in our wonderful school vegetable garden.

Bridge update

We are all so excited to be getting a brand new bridge in Ahaura. Quite often we will see the crane from the classroom window or hear them driving poles into the ground. Today we were notified that the new poles for the bridge were being brought into Ahaura on a massive truck. As a school we all went down to the domain to watch it coming it. It was very impressive. They had a very long truck to fit the concrete poles on it which meant it had to have someone on the end to control the way the truck swung around the corners. This was a new learning process for most of the children in Room 6. We love being part of the bridge updates and cant wait for it to be completed in the new year.

Lessons on Bees

Awahono School was lucky enough to have Noah and Blessed, two bee keepers, come to visit. They taught us so many wonderful things like how bees only make 3/4 of a teaspoon of honey in their whole lifetime, or how they only live for 5 weeks, but in that time, the distance they travel is equivalent to going 3 times around the world. Room 6 learnt that bees really are wonderful creatures and that there are so many ways they can help humans. This was a wonderful visit for all children in the class, especially those children who are focusing their topic project on bees. Keep an eye out for our 'Science behind our food' displays on our own personal blogs.
